Next stop - Ocala
Monday, Feb.11
We’re off to Ocala today, a distance of roughly 250 miles. At 12:30 we have about 100 miles to go. Weather report – sunny and 20C; gas report - $2.78/gal.
Somewhere round 3pm we arrive at http://www.ocalasunrvresort.com/ I’ve been driving, but as soon as we enter the park, Al ‘offers’ to take over. For the next week we will reside at the corner of Silly Filly and Triple Crown Dr. and you’d be right in thinking that this is horse racing country. Premium lot in our case means a triangular piece where the trailer is situated front/back in an east/west direction. Our neighbours are big time RV’rs with most units pulling substantial cars, nay trucks. Our earlier stop at the local WalMart Superstore (de rigeur in Al’s parlance) had us parking at one end where, as I waited for him to return with groceries, a variety of RV buses nestled in around us; I counted the length – 6 parking spaces wide, maybe even 7. I cannot imagine how they manage to gas up in most locations as they would need such a wide turning radius. This is of course a touchy subject as last year we 'kissed' a post and did the trailer some damage. Across the street from us is a somewhat smaller unit – a Cruise Master pulling a very nice rigid trailer which houses amongst other things a very shiny 2 people motorcycle. As I write this 3-4 very quiet motorcycles cruise past to their campsite. Our neighbour has just plucked out the shopping from a soft insulated container mounted on the back – 4 bags of groceries only!
Well, Al has ‘lent’ his credit card number to a local provider of WiFi – tengointernet. We used this service last year. Seems our first test results in being able to receive but not send. The usual problem that will require refreshing my memory in order to find the appropriate security setting. Our choice of campsite? Definitely not as nice as the one outside Austin, TX last year. Relatively inexpensive, but basically camping in the middle of a farmer’s field. Mucho upgrades are ongoing as the owners hope to sell lots. There being no cable service, Al had me helping to orient the TV antenna. Maybe I’ll get lucky and we won’t get the ??? news or weather channels. Right now he’s off looking for a US post office in order to mail a cheque for the first tax installment on the house, an event that we had anticipated to occur after our return.
